Great read. They tried to convince us links don’t matter ..

Very good read, as always. I have a question about links and its impact on google seo: Dofollow and non-follow links in Substack:

I have seen that the outboud links of some newsletters that have been running for some time in Substack are dofollow, but others, perhaps newer ones, are nofollow.

Is this just a privilege that older newsletters have, or is it due to other factors, such as more visits or that they have a paid plan?

Great question. I suspect Substack implemented this to prevent their platform being abused by spammers to launch 'newsletters' intended purely to be link farms. By nofollowing all outgoing links until the newsletter has 'proven' itself, they discourage that particular form of spam.

I agree. But this looks unfair. In the wikipedia case, all the outbound links are non-follow, not only the ones from beginners.
